Ricoh Sets a New Benchmark for High Speed Production and Host Printing with the Launch of the Aficio™SP 9100DN

Amstelveen, The Netherlands, September 2006 -- Ricoh Europe B.V. is launching the Aficio™SP 9100DN to meet all the requirements of high production printing customers. Performance, efficiency and reliability are key to this target group. The Aficio™SP 9100DN meets the needs of reprographic and host printing environments with monthly volumes of 20,000 to 60,000 prints and extensive finishing demands. Capable of handling peak volumes of 300,000 prints, the Aficio™SP 9100DN provides these capabilities at a low Total Cost of Ownership (TCO).

The new system meets the demand for a cost efficient black and white printer for central reproduction departments, as well as host printing in SAP®, IBM®, Sun® and UNIX environments.

The Aficio™SP 9100DN can print up to 75 black and white pages per minute, also in duplex mode, and offers a first print under 5.5 seconds. With a maximum paper capacity of up to 8,200 sheets, uninterrupted productivity is guaranteed.

“Customer surveys tell us that there is a demand for a device that can effortlessly produce large print volumes with a perfect finish, but without the large upfront investment,” says Valerie Croese, Product Manager at Ricoh Europe’s Marketing Department. “The Aficio™SP 9100DN is specifically designed to satisfy the needs of this niche market.”

The system supports media up to 216 g/m² with finishing capabilities, which include punching, stapling, booklet making and saddle stitching. The unique detail that has gone into the finishing can be illustrated by the hole punch, a vital area in high volume environments. A special sensor detects paper placement position, and the reactive punch unit automatically corrects its position to improve punch hole alignment.

Customisation is offered through a matching high performance scanner converting the Aficio™SP 9100DN printer into a multifunctional device with print, scan and copy functionalities. Customer specific software applications are supported through Ricoh’s Embedded Software Architecture™, an open platform based on Java™ technology. Furthermore, security is optimal including automatic data overwriting, encryption, authentication and the prevention of unauthorised printing.

In compliance with Ricoh’s strict environmental standards, the Aficio™SP 9100DN features low ozone and sound emission levels and power consumption under 30 W in energy saver mode.

The Aficio™SP 9100DN is the latest addition to Ricoh's advanced range of digital office equipment. Ricoh currently manufactures one of the world’s most extensive line ups of printers, copiers, scanners, faxes and multifunctional devices, as well as advanced software solutions.
