Aficio™MP 9000 and Aficio™MP 1100 Digital High Volume Document Systems Solidifying Ricoh’s Market Leadership

Amstelveen, The Netherlands, June 2006 -- Ricoh Europe B.V. introduces the Aficio™MP 9000 and Aficio™MP 1100 high volume document production systems. The Aficio™MP 9000 and MP 1100 target customers with average monthly volumes between 100,000 to 750,000 pages. Following the success of their predecessors, these new models are expected to further raise Ricoh’s 30% market share in the low to mid production segment in Europe*.

The Aficio™MP 9000 and MP 1100 are part of Ricoh's new generation of high volume solutions offering respective speeds of 90 and 110 pages per minute. Unique in this segment, the Aficio™MP 9000 and MP 1100 offer colour network scanning. Next to the obvious advantages, this novelty also ensures an even richer quality of black and white copies, due to the increased range of grey scales.

“With these new models our product development teams have done a fantastic job,” says Gerard de Pender, Senior Product Manager at Ricoh Europe’s Professional Products Group. “This new generation represents a huge leap in technology. Both models are several steps ahead of competitors in terms of user friendliness, uptime, reliability, finishing and media handling. Rather than focussing on hardware only, we cover the customer’s entire production workflow. Through a wide range of software solutions every aspect of the process is covered, including job submission, creation, finishing, storage and invoicing. With such a strong and complete portfolio we feel confident that we can continue to increase our market share.”

Compared to predecessor models, productivity further increased. Both systems have a maximum paper capacity of up to 8,500 sheets from a possible nine paper sources. All can feed A3 oversized paper and all support paper weights of up to 216 g/m². Paper, as well as toner can be added while the systems are in use. The systems provide true 1,200 x 1,200 dpi imaging and unparalleled 0.5 mm registration accuracy for both simplex and duplex output.

Time saving finishing options greatly reduce time spent on finishing – typically 40% of the working day for a reprography operator. The optional online Plockmatic booklet maker creates 120-page books with the look and feel of a perfectly bound book for a fraction of the cost. Operators will also benefit from automatic punching, from the new GBC StreamPunch™ III, for all common wire-binding styles. The unique automatic staple cutting ensures staples are cut to size to precisely fit, regardless of the number of pages in one set.

Next to a built-in Ricoh controller, the EB-135 controller is available for Fiery® utilities. The optional doc-Q-manager software provides job management and job splitting or routing between multiple systems. Cost management and allocation is provided through Equitrac Office™ software. High levels of security for document processing systems are also included.

Environmental issues are central to the design of the Aficio™MP 9000 and Aficio™MP 1100. They offer very low sound, emission levels and power consumption. Manufacturing is undertaken using only toxic free materials.

The Aficio™MP 9000 and Aficio™MP 1100 are the latest addition to Ricoh's advanced range of digital office equipment. Ricoh currently manufactures one of the world’s most extensive line ups of printers, copiers, scanners, faxes and multifunctional devices, as well as advanced software solutions.
